Celebrating 135 Years of Avon
Avon has empowered women to create a beautiful and positive impact in the world for 135 years. As the company for women, Avon was a pioneer in direct selling, helping women earn their own income. We continue this legacy through our business model, our iconic beauty products, and our support for causes that benefit women.
Our visionary founder, David H. McConnell, launched this business with the revolutionary concept that women could earn an independent income—34 years before women even won the right to vote! Since our founding in 1886, we have stayed true to McConnell’s principles "to meet fully the obligations of corporate citizenship by contributing to the well-being of society and the environment in which it functions." Our commitment to providing women with opportunities for economic independence has remained strong decade after decade.
And our Representatives continue to be at the heart of Avon. We celebrate them and their achievements in a variety of ways, rewarding them with bonuses, awards and even trips to beautiful locations for our top achievers. It’s a privilege to recognize those going above and beyond in their communities, leading teams, and motivating other Representatives to reach their goals.
Avon has continuously offered products that customers can count on. It all started with Skin So Soft Bath Oil. Today, we still use the original soothing and nourishing formula created in 1961 and it has been our best-selling formula for more than 60 years. We’re also known for selling unique fragrances like Far Away Eau de Parfum, high-performance Anew skin care and so much more.
It’s with great pride that we also give back to, and partner with, a variety of causes with a focus on women. Since 1992, Avon has helped support the fight against breast cancer and contributed more than $800 million to breast cancer causes. In 2003, the Avon Foundation launched the Avon 39 The Walk to End Breast Cancer, a 39-mile walk through Manhattan and Brooklyn. The walk continued for 14 years, with each one garnering thousands of participants and raising millions of dollars. Plus, 15% of sales of our collection of Pink Hope fundraising products (featuring jewelry, clothing, makeup and more) benefits the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer®.
Since 2004, Avon has also partnered with Feed the Children, an organization that works to improve nutrition, hygiene and education in vulnerable communities around the world. Over the last 16 years, Avon has donated over 17 million pounds of personal care, hygiene and beauty products, clothing, shoes, and home essentials to families in need. In that time, we’ve empowered and impacted nearly 1 million families and 4.4 million women and girls in the US.
More recently, we’ve also partnered with Gyrl Wonder, an organization that empowers young ambitious women of color through social impact and career exploration. In 2020, Avon donated over $100,000 worth of essential products to the “gyrls” of Gyrl Wonder to support their pillars of self-care, self-image, empowerment, development, and service.
