Every year on August 26, we celebrate Women’s Equality Day: a holiday that commemorates the 1920 adoption of the 19th Amendment, which gave U.S. women the right to vote. This monumental achievement only came about because of the tireless efforts of passionate, fearless women—something that still inspires Avon a century later and helps drive Avon’s mission to celebrate women’s power to make a beautiful and positive impact in the world.
For more than 135 years, since before women even had the right to vote, Avon has been at the forefront of women’s equality, creating a path to independence with a new way to earn their own income. Avon continues to celebrate women’s equality every day!
In celebration of Women’s Equality Day, we asked the Avon community to submit nominations of women who have impacted their lives and inspired them so we can celebrate them and share their stories. Read on to learn about these incredible and inspirational women.

Nominee: Sherry G.
Nominator: SueAnn T.
Sherry is here to lead! She is willing to share her personal journey in and out of Avon and guide you during your own! As a leader with Avon, Sherry is willing to be there, even if it's just to say, "I'm cheering for you," or "I am here to talk!" She cares for her team and not just her own business. I had my first event, and not only did Sherry spend hours on the phone going over my needs, fears, and hopes, she then drove to me with some of her stock to help fill my tables! She continued to guide me as customers asked questions and gave great advice of dos and don'ts along the way. Because of her, we are seeing success as she guides us.
Nominee: Evelyn L.
Nominator: Beverly R.
I am nominating my mother as she is the strongest woman and has always influenced my life. When the military opened up for women to be able to go on active duty, she joined in order to provide for her two daughters and make a better life for herself and her family. She raised us girls to be strong independent women. She served 16 years in the Army and then retired. She has battled cancer and lost the love of her life three years ago, all the while taking care of her elderly mother. If it was not for her, I do not know what kind of woman I would be today. Every day I strive to be like her. She is not only my rock but my role model.
Nominee: Mrs. White
Nominator: Benita B.
I grew up in Richmond, VA (Henrico County to be exact). There, I had Mrs. White as my 8th-grade honors math teacher. She was an awesome teacher who went above and beyond to make sure that we had no excuse to not learn Algebra. From day 1, she let us know that she was here to help—and told us what time she made it to school in the mornings and the two days a week that she stayed late. Any of her students were welcome to stop by her class in the morning or stay late to get assistance with our work. In her efforts to eliminate any barriers to our education, she even arranged for her students to ride the detention bus home if we wanted to stay late to get help. In the afternoons, we'd work on math problems, and she'd give us jolly rancher candy each time we got a problem right. Today, I hold a bachelor's in mathematics because of teachers like her, who went above and beyond to ensure their students had everything they needed to succeed.
Nominee: Sally S.
Nominator: MaryEllen R.
Sally empowered me to get my college degree in Theology at the age of 53, she guided me in the process of getting scholarships, so I applied and was awarded a 50% Hruby scholarship to Aquinas College and given 65 hrs from life experience and my nursing program. When I told Sally I felt called to ordination as a priest, she told me it will come true.! When I felt doubt, she kept sharing hope and strength. I was ordained and continued to serve as a chaplain in the hospital with Sally. Sally has been a great mentor on life's path and a dear friend showing up in the challenges and in celebrations.
